How to Choose Veterinary Simulators for Your Institution
A practical checklist for selecting veterinary simulators: curriculum fit, species, learning objectives, realism, consumables, delivery and support.
Start with what learners need to practise
A useful simulator starts with a defined teaching objective. List the skills your learners need to rehearse and map each one to a model. A bovine dystocia simulator serves a different purpose from a canine intubation trainer or a suture pad; prioritise the learning need before the size of the collection.
Match species and anatomy to your programme
Compare the species and anatomical structures offered by each trainer. VetLifes includes bovine, equine, sheep, canine and feline models across different training categories. Read each model’s features to check landmarks, simulated tissue, vascular or airway components, and the procedures it is designed to support.
Separate reusable equipment from consumables
Check what is included in a unit, which components can be replaced, and how much material a practical session may require. A minimum order of one unit can still contain a set of several pieces. Confirm both the MOQ and the supplied quantity before placing an order.
Plan around delivery and customisation
The digital brochure lists model-specific delivery estimates of two, three or eight weeks. Larger dystocia models are subject to customisation requirements. Allow time for consultation, order confirmation and institutional planning before scheduling sessions around new equipment.
Read warranty and care terms carefully
The brochure’s standard warranty covers manufacturing defects on non-consumable items, with exclusions for normal wear and tear, use-related damage and deterioration after delivery and acceptance. Some models explicitly list a one-year warranty; where a duration is not given, ask for it in your quotation. Consumables are excluded.
Request a specification-led quotation
Share your institution, target species, procedures, learner numbers and proposed teaching timetable. Ask for the selected product codes, quantities, included components, customisation, delivery estimate and applicable warranty in the quotation. For mixed or consolidated orders, discuss the combined requirement rather than assuming the individual MOQs apply unchanged.
